pdf Borysova Olga, Karpitsky Nikolai. Father Paisii Hilendarski`s Message About the Volga Ancestral Home of the Bulgarians as a Source of Formation of National Historical Consciousness // Journal of International Eastern European Studies, Vol.1. No.2. 2019. P.247-260.

Paisii Hilendarski was one of the most well-educated persons in the seventeenth century and a key Bulgarian National Revival person. He is being the most famous author of “Slavic-Bulgarian History” in which he talked about general heroic history of Bulgarians and their interaction with other Slavic peoples.

Many scientific researchers think that in Paisii Hilendarski 's book there were no real facts and history but mostly National Epos, which he wrote especially for National Revival of Bulgarian`s National Idea.

He wrote about the quite concrete and true picture of Slavic people and Bulgars resettlement, which could be proven with help of hydronyms and studies, which were carried out by modern scientists as V. Sedov, M. Zhih, F. Butba, A. Novoseltsev.

This article analyses Paisii Hilendarski's message about the ancestral home of the Volga Bulgars and their connections and interactions with Slavs. The Article also illustrates innovative theories and conclusions about the modern studies and the problems of the ethno-cultural identity of the population in “imenkovo culture”. This paper compares the hydronyms research that took place in Paisii of Hilendarski's book with modern Volga territories geographic names. In the article, the authors highlight the importance of analysis the authenticity of Paisii Hilendarski 's message about the origin of Bulgarians from the ethnonym “Bolga river”.

The results show that Paisius of Hilendarski's message was not estimated enough and these results help to reconsider his message as an important piece of analyses in studies Bulgarian Middle Ages.

ACADEMIC FREEDOM AND CULTURAL EVENTS
There were indications that the government took new steps to restrict academic and cultural freedom.
There were multiple cases of authorities opening criminal investigations against university professors whose writings criticized government policy, and in some cases firing them. For example, on October 1, religion professor Nikolay Karpitskiy from Yugra State University, in Khanty-Mansiysk, was informed that university management had reversed its earlier decision to extend his employment contract. While the university gave no formal notice of the reason for his dismissal, Karpitskiy told local media that his firing probably resulted from his participation in an academic conference on religious issues in Ukraine, since the administration had warned him that his participation in the conference would endanger his position at the university.

Meeting with Ravi Mohan Gupta
On the 5th of March American professor Ravi Mohan Gupta delivered lecture in the Kyivan Vaishnava temple. Witnessing the kirtan performed by hundreds bhaktis he felt like making a leap in time, because such religious enthusiasm could have been seen only in America during times of Shrila Prabhupada. Originated from vaishnava family, mr. Ravi’s ancestors from generation to generation followed the tradition of gaudia vaishnavism.

The next day Ravi Gupta prabhu delivered lecture at the Institute of Philosophy named by G. S. Skovoroda as well as at the Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv in the presence of His Excellency Embassador of India. The interest of academic community to the professor’s persona is natural, because he is the author of very serious academic research on the text “Catuhsutri Tika” – commentary on Brahma Sutra of the famous Indian saint and philosopher of XVI century Jiva Goswami. The text had not been studied before. Ravi Gupta prabhu in the very scrupulous way has juxtaposed manuscripts which came to our times and took to the account all differences in interpretations. In the result the book “The Caitanya Vaisnava Vedanta of Jiva Goswami” had seen the world. It was translated by Yu. Yu. Zavgorodniy and O. Yu. Kukharuk. I had an honor to work on the planning imposition and general editing of the book. There is combination of spiritual vision, the tradition of religious practice and academic approach in Ravi Gupta prabhu’s book. Because of this it the book will be very interesting for the researchers as well as vaishnava bhaktis.

Unfortunately, there was no time to show Kyiv to the professor. Only after the sunset we were able to have a little walk from Zoloti Vorota (Golden Gate) to Maidan. Professor Ravi Gupta prabhu was really interested in the ancient Kyivan history as well as the relatively recent events on Maidan. I felt pride for the Ukrainian history. We reached Dnieper next day but still had less than an hour there to see the city. We came into the Temple of the Orthodox Church. It was pleasant to see with such respect Ravi Gupta prabhu treated Christian sacred symbols. I presented “ladan” (frankincense, olibanum) incense to him there.

Twenty minutes later Ravi Gupta prabhu started to deliver lecture for devotees with the question “Why the variety of religions exists?” Listening to many reasonable answers, Ravi Gupta prabhu proposed his one and I agree with him completely – God exists in His endless diversity and cannot be limited by only one image or representation. Different traditions have their revelations, true spiritual teachers and saints. Making a choice once, one has to be consistent on his way in the spiritual tradition.

The Thaw in Russia’s Periphery

JEDRZEJ MORAWIECKI

For ages Russia has been building projects which in the 21st century have been repacked again. Two products are being offered at the same time, with two dominating identity concepts. The first is the Orthodox identity. It protects conservative values, defends Kremlin policies, but also does not stay away from the lights of shopping malls, the glamour and consumption joys. The second concept is quite different. On the surface, it seems quite icy and unattractive. But when you get a closer look at the post-Soviet cities, remotely located from Moscow or St Petersburg, you will understand that this second Russia speaks with multiple voices and is very polyphonic.

[profile] karpitskiy в Siberian Professor Fired After Taking Part in Conference in Ukraine
Paul Goble. October 3, 2014

Staunton, October 1 – In yet another indication of the way in which Vladimir Putin is imposing an intellectual straightjacket on the Russian population, a professor from the Yugra State University in Khanty-Mansiisk who specializes on Indian religions appears to have lost his job because he took part in an academic conference on religious issues in Ukraine.

Globalsib.com reported October 1 that Nikolay Karpitsky learned that the university rectorate had reversed its earlier decision to extend his contract and had ended its relationship with him. Karpitsky himself says that he considers what has taken place to be a clear case of discrimination.

In response to his inquiry, the university administration did not provide any reason for his dismissal, but he said one of the deputy rectors had told him that his participation alone – and not anything else that he had said or done — in the Ukrainian conference “cast doubt” on his further role as a professor at Yugra State University.

Karpitsky says that what has happened to him represents an attack not only on his person but on all the instructors of the university because it interferes with their scholarly work which includes “scientific contacts with colleagues from Ukraine.” As a result, he has called on the rectorate to reverse itself or at least explain what other reasons could be involved.

The scholar first attracted public attention three years ago when he testified against an official effort to declare the Bhagavadgita an “extremist” book and when he sought to organize his fellow scholars in Tomsk in defense of this Indian classic.

The focus of the report was gathered Ph.D. Nicholas Karpitsky about the value and meaning of the dialogue of followers of different faiths.

As the January 17 portal runews24.ru, the meeting was attended by representatives of different religions: Orthodoxy, Protestantism, Catholicism, Buddhism and Hinduism, represented in this case Tomsk representatives of Russia's largest Hindu religious organization – the Society for Krishna Consciousness. The focus of the report was gathered Ph.D. Nicholas Karpitsky about the value and meaning of inter-religious dialogue. The meeting was also attended by journalists.

In his speech, Nicholas Karpitsky reiterated the important fact that the dialogue of religions, and even differ in its fundamental principles, ideas and beliefs, it is still very valuable, because thanks to him we can overcome stereotypes. Dialogue provides an opportunity to better understand each other and work together to solve the pressing issues that unite everyone.

Talking about the advantages and features of the spiritual development of man, Professor Karpitsky highlighted his ability to recognize the value of personal spiritual experience of other people, and this, in turn, significantly enriches my own inner world.

According to observations of the expert, there is now some common trajectory of development of different religions. However, he is confident that this approach can be seen, and even record if the call for help was an inter-religious and inter-faith dialogue. Thus the common goal of different religious traditions scientist sees in the spiritual enlightenment of man, and that alone can serve as a first step to form a single consistent worldview.

On the other hand, the dialogue of religions, according to the philosopher, can be considered as a tool to solve more pressing problems of ordinary, one of the most serious of which are considered sectarian strife and conflict.

After the speech, the scientist an open discussion, according to the portal, adding that the meeting was organized social movement "Interreligious dialogue" and that such constructive discussions held in Tomsk on a regular basis, and this is – a good tradition in itself.

Recall that Nicholas Karpitsky with a determination made in 2011-2012. against attempts to ban the sacred Bhagavad Gita translation and commentary of the outstanding Indian religious leader and educator AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (1896-1977), when based on the application of the Tomsk prosecutor in Tomsk held a lawsuit on the recognition of the book as extremist material. Well-known scientists of the country were forced to turn to the corresponding address to the first persons of the state with a request to stop the absurd process, which dealt a serious blow to the reputation of Russia, and in the eyes of the world community, and the Russian-Indian relations and the prestige of the Russian science. Not to mention the honor and dignity of the followers of the Vaishnava traditions and Hinduism in general. Fortunately, during the second trial, the Tomsk Regional Court upheld in March 2012 confirmed the decision of the Leninsky district court of Tomsk, the prosecutor failed to satisfy his claim.

The text of the open letter
March 19, 2012

A group of renowned Russian scientists representing leading Russian research organisations and universities has addressed an open letter to President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in connection with the ongoing trial of “Bhagavad Gita As It Is”, a revered Hindu scripture, in the Russian city of Tomsk.

Copies of the letter have been sent to the General Prosecutor’s Office of Russia, Ministry of Justice of Russia, Russian Human Rights Ombudsman, the Public Chamber and selected Russian media.

Previously, scholars taking part in the scientific and practical conference “Bhagavad Gita in History and Modern Society” at Tomsk State University on 24 February expressed serious concerns over the new investigation into the “Bhagavad Gita” case.

Below is the text of the open letter to Dmitry Medvedev and Vladimir Putin, obtained by NEWSru.com.

Russian scholars come out in support of Bhagavad Gita translation
The Hindu. March 1, 2012. Vladimir Radyuhin

As the battle over a Russian translation of Bhagavad Gita continues, Russian scholars came out strongly in support of the book and condemned attempts to ban it as extremist literature. Over 60 Russian scholars gathered in the Siberian city of Tomsk for a conference on Bhagavad Gita. It adopted a resolution that voiced alarm over a court trial against the book “Bhagavad Gita As It Is” and stressed “the enduring historic value” of the ancient Indian scripture.

A court in Tomsk in December rejected a local prosecutor’s petition seeking a ban on “Bhagavad Gita As It Is” on the grounds that it incited “social hatred” and “violence against non-believers”. However, the Tomsk prosecutor has appealed against the verdict and the court is to hear his appeal on March 6. In a new petition the prosecutor is demanding a ban only on the Russian translation of comments in the book “Bhagavad Gita As It Is”, not the canonical text itself.

Russian scholars welcomed the Tomsk court verdict and said the prosecutor’s appeal was groundless because religious texts cannot be tried for extremism. They accused experts who prepared testimony against Bhagavad Gita of incompetence and bias and called for establishing an independent body of scholars and experts in religion, philosophy and social sciences, who would prepare objective and competent reviews of various texts. The scholars warned of “grave consequences the continuation of the trial may have for our friendly relations with India.”

Bhagavad Gita trial in Russia
Summary of articles by Felix Corley, Forum 18 News Service http://www.forum18.org

Viktor Fedotov, Tomsk's Prosecutor, asked the city's Lenin District Court to rule the third Russian edition of the Bhagavad-Gita As it Is extremist. The book is a Russian edition of a translation by Swami Prabhupada, founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. An "expert analysis" completed in October 2010 by three academics at Tomsk State University – Sergei Avanesov, Valeri Svistunov and Valeri Naumov at the request of FSB security service officer Dmitry Velikotsky found that the book "contains signs of incitement of religious hatred and humiliation of an individual based on gender, race, ethnicity, language, origin or attitude to religion", he said. The analysis claimed the book humiliated those who did not believe in or even know about Krishna or follow Krishna's teachings. It claimed that the author propagated the exclusivity and superiority of his faith and was hostile, insulting and humiliating about other faiths. It also claimed that the author called for hostile or violent acts against women and non-Hare Krishna devotees.

Experiencing the integrity of life as experience of world in man's existence
Man lives in the world, though in phenomenological sense the world is discovered throughout the human being, rather than on the contrary, and it is discovered in particular experience - in experiencing the integrity of life. It is here where the primary principles of the description of world are put. Thus, in order to detect the fundamental principle of the image of the world in human existence, it is necessary to turn to phenomenological analysis of experiencing the integrity of life per se, which is such a usual and common reality that it can be noticed only in the situation of its deprivation.

CRIMINALIZATION OF RUSSIAN ANTIFASCISTS
_________________________________________________________________

* * *

Governmental attempts to criminalize antifascist activists
is the usual thing in Russia. Thus, about two months ago regional
criminal police service of Tomsk (West Siberea) raided the house
of Nikolai Karpitsky, PhD in philosophy, the chairman of
Antifascist Youth Action (AYA) regional branch and member of
nation-wide AYA Coordinating Board. All paper materials (such as
leaflets, posters, flyers, financial documents etc.) were
confiscated, and the activity of AYA was claimed as "anti-state"
and criminal. Now the regional police authorities try to start
the "terrorism" case.

It is only the most recent accident. The history of nation-
wide AYA movement also started with a criminal case, inspired by
State Duma (Russian lower legislative chamber), which asked the
General Prosecutor's Office to investigate the "act of vandalism
over the national symbol". In fact, during the first nation-wide
AYA conference in March 3, 1996, the delegates entering the
Conference Hall stepped over the two red banners laying on the
floor - the Nazi flag and Soviet flag. Fortunately, the criminal
case was closed without any prosecution to antifascists.

Аntinomy of the human existence
Аntinomy of the human existence is determined by temporality; therefore, it cannot be solved in daily life. The existential choice arises when the man exists between two existential significantly alternatives. The human act makes impossible to realize other alternative. In Christianity every moment of life is an exclusive existential importance; therefore, the act can have determining meaning for eternal life. However, man can not be all time in a siuation of existential choice. That is why he searches for simple ways: the man can reduce Christianity either to morals or to formalism. If a man can feel clear freedom it is difficult to make existential choice. All apostolic churches recognize free will; however, in Orthodoxy church this understanding reaches to maximum of existential intensity. The man is not simply free but he doomed to be free. Unsolvable antinomy in temporality life can be solved in eternity. The eternity includes a fullness of temporary life, and if in temporality life the act excludes alternatives, they can be realized together in eternity.

Russian philopher Pavel Florensky wrote that antinomy specifies on transcendental sphere (or on eternity). The antinomy consequently testifies the truth. He wrote that from a position of mind it is impossible to solve the antinomy between two mutually exclusive theses: "elected people can be rescued" and "all people can be rescued". However, this contradiction overcomes with a position of eternity. Lev Karsavin wrote that the completeness of life in eternal life could not be excluded all moments, including the moment of destruction. In lifetime we can see mutual exclusion of alternatives (the man would be rescued or would not): in eternity there is no mutual exclusion; therefore, both salvation and destruction can be carried out in destiny of the same man.

Vse-edinstvo (all–unit)
From the point of view of Russian philosopher Soloviev the term “all-unit” is not abstract, but expression constant experience.

Soloviev singles out three levels of unit:
1) mechanical;
2) organic;
3) “all–unit” (Vse-edinstvo – rus. The term was introduced into practice by russian philosopher Vladimir Sergeevich Soloviev in second part of XIX centure).
A mechanical unit is the unit of elements forming system. For example, the unit of internal forms biological organism.

An organic unit intends the beginning of new object which does not throw together to its own parts. For instance, human is not just a system of internal.

An “all–unit” intends not only an origin of unit but also intends unit in every part of “all–unit”. For example, human can express himself in gesture, mimic, word. Due to this ability is possible private intercourse. When I speak with someone I see his face and hear his voice, and I regard not to voice and face but to human like comprehensive whole which forming in his voice and face.

Separate elements are perceived by sense organs and Soloviev refers this phenomenon to material being.
The whole is understood by all minds and Soloviev refers this phenomenon to ideal being.

The whole makes substance of a subject and unit of different elements is its material being. There are not different substances, but two methods of opening the same being.

The expression of ideal (the whole) in material being (single) come out from the sense and mind perception. It is esthetic experience. Accordingly expression of unit in single is beauty. Beauty is a form of “all–unit” manifestation. What was said about human could be said about world too. World can be searched like system composed of elements. In such way it can be understand like material system. The science knowledge corresponds to level of mechanical unit.

It is possible to see on world from the position of unit which does not correspond to single elements. In such way we can understand the sense of the world. It can give us the philosophic knowledge.
And the world can be given to us like “all–unit–world” when every parts contain the unit. It can be understand by esthetic. It is a possibility to communicate with all world by own experience. Solovievs meeting with world was described by meeting with Sophia (divine wise). This is “all–unit–world” how God perceives it and how it opens to Human. And such beauty is not substance of God but different that is why Soloviev said that it is womanhood. Sophia is internal womanhood of the world.
karpitsky: (Default)
Philosophy is individual way of the understanding
Philosophy is individual way of the understanding generally valid on the base private living experience. It is possible to study philosophical system of Plato, Aristotel or Kant perfectly, but not understand their philosophy. Philosophical system is not aim, but a form of expression own experience. The truth of philosophical system will be based when author expresses not only own ideas, but also steps private thinking in such way that readers can render it.
Due to readers can understand author’s living experience even if they don’t agree with it.
The main philosophy’s aim is not total agreement, but it is mutual understanding.
